Breathing Under Pressure
exploring life with anxiety — one brave breath at a time
WELCOME!
This space offers a personal account on navigating life with anxiety — not the crippling kind, but the kind that sends quiet waves of fear, worry, and the physical symptoms that can dull life’s shine.
I am an overthinker who loves scuba diving but would battle anxiety before each dive. I would almost talk my way out each time, knowing deep down that I would get in the water. But it’s not just diving where I find myself showing up scared but do it anyway. It’s a pattern across many aspects of my life. So really, this space is about doing things repeatedly despite fear. It’s about when courage doesn’t look like courage.
What you’ll find – Here, you’ll find honest reflections on my experiences with scuba diving, travel, and the everyday moments where anxiety has showed up. These are stories told with a mix of vulnerability and moments of humour, much like life itself.
You won’t find solutions being offered here*, maybe the occasional tips. But what I hope to offer is perhaps a different perspective that get you thinking differently about your own experience.
Why I created this space – My intention is to share personal stories in the hope that my experiences may resonate with others and help them feel seen, understood, and a little less alone. If what I share offers comfort to someone going through something similar, then this is worthwhile.
But I also want to offer encouragement to those thinking about stepping out of their comfort zone – whether that’s getting their scuba diving certification or simply giving a presentation at work. Because truly, you can…despite anxiety. Despite the voice in your head urging you to retreat, or the physical symptoms putting up roadblocks along the way.
Who I hope to reach – This space was created for shared humanity…
For those like me who’s constantly battling waves of fear and anxiety on sometimes the simplest task like driving a car. Remember, you’re not alone.
For those not necessarily anxious but perhaps an overthinker, a worrier, or just a little nervous – maybe you’re a little scared getting your diving certification or stepping back in the water. Cheers to being scared but doing it anyway.
For those walking alongside someone with anxiety – I hope what I share offers a glimpse into their inner world, the one that can exist under a calm exterior. Anxiety often has a ripple effect, and for me, it reaches those closest to me like my husband. I hope this reminds you that you’re not alone either.
Join me as I reflect on the experiences anxiety has joined for the ride.
In earnest,
Tori
